Lunch Buffet @ Resort Cafe, Sunway Resort & Spa

Wednesday, September 23, 2015

Can't remember when was my last buffet, I think it was at Shangrila Hotel or Mandarin Oriental. It was a long time ago, I have a very small stomach capacity so buffet is not really worth it for me.

I visit Resort Cafe last Sunday with my family, my mom thought it is a good chance for a family gathering, I was ready to eat my heart out after reading all the positive reviews & looking at those tempting pictures on Google. Are you ready to hear my pure & honest review? Is it worth the money?

Every guest are greeted with ONE cup of ginger drink, strictly ONE cup.
I was away and I didn't get it, the waiter keep reminding me instead of listening to my explanation :(

Smoked/Fresh Salmon - Where is my tuna I saw online?
From this picture, you know how high in demand the satays are.
Everytime I passby, they were only limited quantity left. Truth to be told, the Chicken & Beef satays are really good.
They have different Roti!
Everything here is good, especially the lamb and papadum!
My mom was scolding me and my SIL because we were wasting our stomach space with papadums.
Took them 10 minutes to make this.
The filings are very delicious but the pita bread is very hard.

This is very good, very generous filling & crispy!

Where are the big prawns I saw on food reviews? :(
High demand item.
It was empty half the time I was there, very limited amount and very slow refill time.
The scallop, salmon sashimi & mussels was oh-kay.
The prawns were yummy & fresh!

Piping hot chee cheong fun with prawn.
Yummy but super salty -___-
They do have red bean & lotus bun with generous filling.
Since it is going to be Mooncake festival, they serve Mooncakes! However, disappointing as well.
The staff was going around shouting "bobo chacha anyone?" I find it quite funny and cute.

They do have a dessert corner and they do have quite a variety of cakes. So far, it was not that bad but not as good as Mandarin Oriental & Shangrila.
The chocolate fondue was disappointing :(

Gelato ice cream - super worth it!
Nutella Gelato is yums, I ate 2 bowls. The macaroon and the bread pudding was disappointing.
Blueberry Cheesecake, Fruit tart, Tiramisu was not that bad.

Note: The pictures doesn't show all the food they served, it was really crowded and I didn't take a lot of chinese and western cuisine.

In my own opinion, unfortunately it does not worth the RM128/person. I didn't get to eat much at all, I think the Gelato was the most expensive item I ate, and I took 2 bowls. I was expecting better food after reading the reviews online, I didn't see Wagyu beef, Juicy Big Prawns, Ice Kacang etc, probably because it wasn't the RM168 dinner? I'm not sure. Overall, the food doesn't taste really good to me.

What I didn't like about it:
Very slow refill rate
Overall food wasn't really that good
Only serve one type coffee & tea (Mandarin Oriental serves all kinds of coffee + hot chocolate)

What I like about it:
Very friendly and helpful staff, the manager was going around talking and joking with guests
Varieties of food (More than Mandarin Oriental, less than Shangrila)
One guest will get ONE cup of ginger drink as a welcome drink

I recommend:
Chinese Cuisine - Laksa, Duck/Chicken
Indian Food - Lamb, Papadum, Nasi briyani, Nasi Kunyit, Curry chicken
Dessert - Gelato

Tip: Go at 12 sharp or else, you have to wait a long time for them to refill.
